The Gaziray project, initiated by the Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, is a national commuter train initiative developed to enhance urban rail transportation. Under this project, eight electric train sets (32 cars) were produced and equipped with modern onboard communication systems.
In this application, TÜRASAŞ, acting as both the vehicle manufacturer and system integrator, implemented a comprehensive communication network using EN50155-certified Layer 2 and Layer 3 Ethernet switches to enable onboard CCTV and PAPIS (Public Address and Passenger Information System) communication. The system required industrial-grade Ethernet switches designed to meet EN50155 standards, which cover environmental conditions such as humidity, temperature, and vibration in railway applications.
Devices such as CCTV cameras, intercom units, microphones, LED monitors, LCDs, and PAPIS control units were integrated into the onboard network via these switches. To prevent any service interruptions, the system also required seamless data transmission and redundancy mechanisms.
Our Solution & Achievements
KLG Smartec, together with its partner GSL Engineering — a leading and trusted distributor and engineering company with 35 years of expertise in Turkey — delivered a reliable communication infrastructure for the Gaziray project. The solution was powered by Kyland’s Aquam8620 and Aquam8120 series industrial Ethernet switches, which are certified for EN50155 compliance and proven in global railway deployments. These devices were deployed across all eight electric train sets (32 vehicles).
Beyond supplying the equipment, GSL provided local support for configuration and commissioning, ensuring smooth deployment and optimal system performance.
With Kyland’s Aquam series as the communication backbone, the Gaziray project achieved uninterrupted data transmission and redundancy mechanisms, safeguarding critical systems such as CCTV and PAPIS. The result is a reliable, secure, and passenger-focused communication infrastructure that strengthens Turkey’s urban rail transport.
