Supporting Critical Power Infrastructure Across Multiple Regions in Mexico

BACKGROUND
Client: CFE
Project: 352 SLT Transmission & Transformation Project for CFE
Location: Mexico
As part of Mexico's ongoing efforts to strengthen national power transmission infrastructure, the CFE (Comisión Federal de Electricidad) is driving the 352 SLT project, which covers multiple regions including Querétaro, Isla del Carmen, Nuevo Casas Grandes, and La Huasteca.
The project involves the development and upgrade of four electrical substations, operating at voltage levels of 34.5 kV, 115 kV, and 230 kV, with a total transformation capacity of 350 MVA. It also includes 10 feeders, a 34.5 kV distribution line, and three 230 kV transmission lines, with a total length of 37.40 km (line) and 142.3 km (circuit).
CHALLENGES
- Ensuring high reliability and zero downtime across multiple substations
- Supporting real-time data transmission for protection and control systems
- Managing long-distance communication across geographically distributed sites
- Meeting harsh industrial and electrical environment requirements
- Implementing network redundancy for critical power infrastructure
OUR SOLUTION

Together with our local partner GM Robotic, we provided a reliable industrial communication foundation for substation automation systems. Kyland industrial Ethernet switches (SICOM3024P) and time synchronization devices (PTS-10A) were deployed as part of the communication network, enabling stable and accurate data exchange across protection, control, and supervisory systems.
The solution supports the integration of Protection, Control, Measurement (PC&M) panels and SCADA systems, ensuring seamless communication between substation devices and control centers. With precise time synchronization and industrial-grade networking capabilities, the system enables coordinated operation of substation automation functions and ensures high system reliability.
GM Robotic delivered specialized solutions for Protection, Control, Measurement, and Supervisory Control (SCADA) systems, supporting the secondary systems of substations.
CUSTOMER VALUE
- Stable and reliable communication across multiple substations
